A dear friend, an Indonesian art dealer, told us that after his expertly designed website was launched a few years ago, it created such a stir. “I was attacked from left and right by expatriate and visiting western dealers, who then bad-mouthed me. They wanted the Indonesians to always be their suppliers and they are the bosses. They looked down on my art objects, but I took it easy, although I once kicked out a visitor to my gallery because he was so rude. That guy later apologised.” Anyway, the main goal of my own website which I co-created with a fellow collector is to bring our collection of Asian artefacts to a wider audience for enjoyment. We also want to tell the world there are Indonesians who respect their country’s extraordinary culture and are not shy to share.
