Garuda, island of Bali

$1.00

Indonesia's glorious Hindu heritage is still evident in art forms, names such as Dewi, Ratna, Sinta or Chandra, rituals and local languagues. I am particularly fond of the mythical garuda bird, which appears on the country's coat of arms and which is also the name of the national airline, Garuda Indonesia. Visitors to Bali will come across statues of garuda almost everywhere, while in Java, the bird usually appears in the form of shadow puppets  or in temple reliefs.
