Patterned cloths from India were exported in large quantities to the Indonesian archipelago centuries ago, becoming a source of inspiration for weavers in various islands. The Indian patterns were expertly reinterpreted by weavers from Sumatra to Bali, Timor to Sulawesi and Flores to the Moluccas. We don't focus on the so-called Indian trade cloths because of the exorbitant prices charged by certain dealers, and we also find the Indonesian versions rather charming.
